Follow the journey as I develop a painting using Collage and Paint. Intuitive painting is an allegory for LIFE - we start without knowing where we will end up, but one step leads to another and then another and then the next. Watch as I start this journey with some brown and blue paint and see where I end up.
Building Layers with Mixedmedia: Collage, Stencils, Painting, and Drawing
In this demo, I’m creating a painting in my sketchbook by layering collage, paint, and drawing media. I’ll talk you through what I’m thinking about as I apply each technique and what I’m trying to achieve.
The most important focus is to be playful and experimental and have a keen eye for discovering what you love in the work. In this painting, I loved the colour combinations, the shapes I found, and the drawing that weaved it’s way through the paint.

2 Different Methods of Using Collage in Abstract Painting
In this video, I demonstrate 2 methods of using Collage in the early stages of an abstract painting. And then how to develop an integrated composition full of surface interest, gorgeous shapes, and a variety of lines. This is all done in my sketchbook and gives you ideas for a quick and effective painting exercise to try yourself.
Finding Clarity In Collage & Paint
This is part of my new exploration - botanicals, media, drawing... It gets muddled in the middle but I find some clarity in the end - so stick around to the end to see where it ends up. I like the possibilities it presents for building meaning and relevance into my work - it's a step forward I think. Watch the vlog.
